Can the MRCPCH theory exams be taken in any order?
Yes. RCPCH describes FOP, TAS and AKP as non-sequential, so candidates can take the three theory exams in any order. All three must be passed before applying for MRCPCH Clinical.

What is the difference between MRCPCH FOP, TAS and AKP?
FOP tests broad clinical knowledge for caring for children; TAS tests the scientific, physiological and pharmacological principles behind practice; and AKP tests applied clinical decision-making and management. FOP and TAS are each 100 questions over two hours. AKP is 120 questions across two 2½-hour papers.

What is the difference between FOP, TAS and AKP?
FOP concentrates on broad clinical knowledge used when caring for children; TAS examines the scientific principles underlying practice; AKP concentrates on applied clinical decision-making and management.
How long are the MRCPCH theory exams?
FOP and TAS each last two hours. AKP has two papers on the same day, each lasting two and a half hours, for five hours of examination time in total.
